The indefatigable Anne Mumbi Waiguru-Kamotho!
She refused to hand over the title deed for the land where Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) wants to put up Sh15 Billion investment in Mwea East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County.
The County Boss did not give in to the stern statements from Permanent Secretary Interior Security Karanja Kibicho who is ‘feared’ by many in Kenya.
She also fought off an impeachment motion from MCAs oiled by the same land issue, and opposition from even some elected leaders.
The Kirinyaga Governor insisted and pushed for an agreement with the medical research institution before she handed over the land document for the 100-acre piece in Wamumu ward.
“We need an agreement to know exactly how the people of Kirinyaga will benefit from the project,” said the Governor.
Some of the contents of the MoU/agreement the Governor was pushing to win a 30 percent manual and non-technical jobs for the residents.
The Governor accused Kibicho of engaging in politics, outside of his job description as PS Interior.
Concurrently, Kibicho said the Governor was sabotaging a noble project that would transform the face of Mwea, physically and economically.
The proposed project includes a medical supplies factory, medical research centre, level-five hospital, and university.
The Ministry of Land, however, through PS Nicholas Muraguri on 16th April 2020 issued a new title deed for the land to Kemri, leaving the title with the Governor as just a mere piece of paper.
