Three women are members of the powerful ten-member mediation committee between the Kenya Kwanza Coalition and Azimio Coalition following differences since the announcement of the 2022 election results, and the assumption of office of President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
Kenya Kwanza is represented in the committee by Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah, Senate Majortiy Leader Aaron Chreuiyot, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, EALA MP Hassan Omar and Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilianga.
The Azimio Coalition list of members comprises Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAPK Leader Eugene Wamalwa, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, Nyamira Senator Onkong’o Omogeni and Malindi Woman Rep Amina Mnyanzi.
The Kenya Kwanza Five-Point Agenda includes the implementation of the 2/3 gender rule, reconstitution of the IEBC, establishment and entrenchment of the office of leader of opposition, embedment of the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, and entrenchment of CDF.
In addition, the Azimio Coalition Five –Point Agenda includes high cost of living, audit of the 2022 elections, bipartisan reconstitution of IEBC, inclusivity of national affairs and respect for political parties.
Below are profiles of the three women included in this powerful committee that seeks to unite Kenya:
GOVERNOR CECILY MBARIRE
Gov Mbarire has a decorated profile serving in the national Assembly as an elected Constituency MP, nominated MP, and in powerful committees addressing urgent and pertinent matters pertaining the country. She is serving as the Governor of Embu County (one of seven Governors in Kenya) and also the Chairperson of the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA). She has a degree in political science.
BUNGOMA WOMAN REPRESENTATIVE CATHERINE WAMBILIANGA
She is the ears and mouth for National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangulah – a shrewd politician who has worked with politicians from both sides of the coalition in the past. MP Wambilianga is serving as County MP for the second term. She is fearless and articulate.
MALINDI WOMAN REPRESENTATIVE AMINA MNYAZI
MP Mnyazi is a first time MP, who has a Masters in Political Science.
