Pastor Dorcas Rigathi Greets Kaa Sober Football Team at the Mutuini Grounds in Dagoretti South During the Launch of Special Football Tournament of those in Addictions

Kaa Sober Team faced Chini ya Mnazi Team in an electrifying football match at the Mutuini Ground in Dagoretti South on Thursday.

The match marked the launch of the Special Football Tournament under the office of the spouse of the Deputy President (OSDP) targeting those addicted to alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse.

The Kaa Sober Team comprised members who were rehabilitated from addictions under the OSDP last year at the ASK Showground, and a rehabilitation centre in Limuru, Kiambu County.

The launch was by the spouse of the Deputy President, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, where the program of the boy child, advocating against alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse is domiciled.

In her speech, Pastor Dorcas said the tournament, which she planned to grow into a championship covering all the 47 counties in the country, would not be all about scoring goals but the main agenda would be bringing boys and men together for rehabilitation against addictions.

“Today, we launch a unique Football Tournament, targeting those in alcohol, drug and substance addictions here in Nairobi. We intend to have this tournament grow into a championship that goes to all wards in Nairobi, and covers the entire Republic of Kenya, and transforms thousands of lives across our 47 counties.”

“Just like you love watching Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea Games – I envision a championship that will be a MUST WATCH for Kenyans. Not because of the score table, but because of the transformative nature of the game. We shall not be looking for a winner or a loser, but this will be a great tool to score against drug and substance abuse in our Nation,” said Pastor Dorcas.

Kaa Sober won the game against Chini ya Mnazi with a score of 3:0.

“In the midst of the excitement surrounding this football tournament, I want to draw our attention to a harsh reality that many of us face daily - the grip of alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse that has ensnared far too many of our youth,” said Pastor Dorcas.

“I watched you fight through the withdrawal symptoms during rehabilitation, and I urge our youth to fight to the end. I have seen many transformed,” added Pastor Dorcas.

Present was Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie and MCA Martin Mwangi.

MP Kiarie said Dagoretti South was honoured to be a key constituency in the actualization of the boy child program.

“As we bring up our daughters, we should know that one day they shall be looking for a boyfriend and a husband, and we must empower our boys,” said MP Kiarie.

MCA Mwangi also commended the tournament as a noble initiative that would transform lives and bring to life the talents and skills dormant in the rehabilitated men.

She had earlier visited Mutuini High School and spoke to the students as they embark in this new academic year.

Pastor Dorcas urged the students to work hard, have faith in God, and pursue excellence for the betterment of their lives.

She told them that their background would not affect their academic performance if they remained focused. She was hosted by School Principal Kairo Ndathe.

Pastor Dorcas incorporates preventive programs for school, advocating against children at a young age getting into alcohol, drugs and substances.
