Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has advised her close ally, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, to rethink his political approach. She gently suggested that Gachagua needs to expand his focus beyond just the Mount Kenya region if he wants to be seen as a national leader. In a recent interview, Wamuchomba pointed out that Gachagua’s influence is mainly in his home region, and it’s time for him to start addressing issues that affect all of Kenya.

Her comments come at a time when several of Gachagua’s allies, including Wamuchomba, have faced a significant decline in power. Many have been removed from important leadership roles in parliamentary committees. Wamuchomba herself was taken out of her role as Chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee and given a less influential position in the Members Services Committee. This reshuffle, done by the House Selection Committee, led to a major shift in power, with Raila Odinga’s ODM party taking control of several important committees, further weakening Gachagua’s influence.
