Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has defended the recent detention and deportation of six Kenyans, including former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and former Justice Minister Martha Karua, who attempted to enter the country to observe the treason trial of opposition leader Tundu Lissu, claiming that their presence amounted to unwelcome interference by foreign activists.
Speaking at a public forum on Monday, Suluhu criticized what she described as a growing trend of external meddling, warning that activists who have failed to influence change in their own countries should not attempt to export their agenda into Tanzania under the pretext of defending democracy or human rights.
