On June 12, 2025, a tragic incident happened at Jacaranda Gardens Estate in Roysambu, Nairobi. A drunk man, identified as James M., threw his five-year-old niece, Amanda Mutheu, off a fifth-floor balcony.
James reportedly stormed into the house and got into an argument with the nanny. He then overpowered her and took Amanda. Despite the nanny’s screams for help, he managed to throw Amanda off the balcony before anyone could stop him.
Amanda was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital but sadly died while in the ICU.
James, who was very drunk at the time, claimed he didn’t throw Amanda, but a doll instead. He told the police, “I love her so much, check the CCTV footage.”
Angry residents caught him and beat him badly before police officers from Kahawa West Police Station arrived and arrested him. He was taken to the same hospital where Amanda passed away and treated for his injuries.
Police are continuing with investigations.
