Brenda died at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital after reportedly falling sick while at school. Her family has accused the school of negligence, saying she did not receive medical attention in time and that they were not informed about her condition early enough.

According to her brother, Allan Otieno, Brenda had been feeling unwell for several days at school but was only given painkillers. He questioned why the family, who live near the school, was not contacted sooner as her condition worsened.

At their home, Brenda’s mother, Millicent Anyango, expressed deep grief and anger. She said the school’s slow response contributed to her daughter’s death and that she only realized how serious Brenda’s illness was when it was already too late.
Following Brenda’s death, protests erupted at Njoro Girls High School, leading to the institution being closed indefinitely. This incident is reported to be the second similar case at the school, raising serious concerns about student safety and medical care.
The family is now demanding answers and justice as investigations into the circumstances surrounding Brenda Akinyi’s death continue
