A very emotional Requiem Mass was held for young Bridgit Njoki at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ndumberi, Kiambu County.

Bridgit’s life was tragically cut short by a stray bullet, allegedly fired by anti-riot police during the Saba Saba protests. The bullet pierced the roof of her home and struck her in the head as she sat watching television on July 7. The senseless act shocked the nation and plunged her family into unimaginable grief.

There were no words that could comfort her devastated parents, Leonard Wainaina and Lucy Kabiri, or her siblings, Teresia Wanjiku and Demian Ndung’u. The 12-year-old was laid to rest today amid tears, sorrow, and calls for justice. Hundreds gathered for the funeral—family, classmates, neighbors, and leaders—filling the church with emotion. Her heartbroken mother had to be supported throughout the service, while young classmates who served as pallbearers broke down in tears. The tragedy reignited calls for accountability and reform in the handling of protests by security forces.
