At Adiedo Mixed Secondary School in Homa Bay County, a determined grandmother turned heads—and touched hearts—when she arrived with her two grandchildren and a basket of six chickens to pay their KSh 245,000 school fees.

One hen even laid an egg during the emotional moment, symbolizing the sacrifice and love behind her gesture. The grandchildren, Mitchell and Hillary, had been sent home due to unpaid fees, prompting their grandmother to offer what little she had—livestock.
Photos of the scene, showing the grandmother, children, and the school principal inspecting the chickens, quickly went viral. Moved by the story, comedian Eric Omondi called on Kenyans to help locate the family.

The outpouring of support worked. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga stepped in, pledging to fully clear the outstanding fees for both students, turning a humble act of desperation into a national story of hope and humanity.
