Aisha was murdered on 4 January at her residence in Utange Mombasa county. Her 18-year-old son sustained serious injuries during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to Mombasa police commander Peter Kimani, two assailants, and armed with a crowbar and the other with a knife, broke into Aisha’s home through the kitchen. when her son attempted to intervene he was injured by the attackers, the intruders stole several items including a television set, a bag containing IEBC documents, and Aisha’s mobile phone. The police are investigating the motive behind the attack. Aisha joined IEBC in 2012 as a constituency elections coordinator for Nyali and had recently been promoted to acting county elections manager for Kilifi following the retirement of her predecessor, Hussein Gure.
