From Gathoge Village in Kirinyaga County, Mama Gift has touched the hearts of many Kenyans with her story of strength and love. She is a single mother raising her son, Baby Gift, who has been battling serious health problems, including cerebral palsy and chronic asthma.

For the past three years, Baby Gift has depended on oxygen to survive. His mother spends over KSh 100,000 every month on treatment — more than KSh 3.6 million in total. Despite the pain and struggle, Mama Gift works hard selling watermelons to provide for her son.

Her story went viral on social media, moving thousands of Kenyans, especially TikTokers and content creators, to organize a fundraiser. On October 26, 2025, more than 15,000 people travelled to Embu to show love and support for her.

Sadly, the journey to Embu was not without tragedy. Along the way, there were several accidents involving supporters. One woman lost her life, while a boda boda rider is currently in the ICU after a motorbike accident.

Even after the incidents, the supporters showed unity and care — making sure the injured received medical attention before continuing to Embu.

Next week, Baby Gift is expected to travel to India for advanced treatment. Mama Gift has now become a symbol of hope, courage, and the true spirit of Kenyan unity.
