If you don’t write now, you will miss a golden opportunity.

Women in leadership in different spheres of the Kenyan economy but leaning towards public service have been busy for the last one-week writing.

This is after the Oprah Winfrey Foundation put out advertising calling for interested women to apply for the fully-funded scholarship to study at the New York University in the USA.

Oprah, a famous talk show host across the world, in partnership with the university, wants to empower and educate African women who are in the public service with the goal of growing Africa-led solutions to solve pressing problems in the world.

They will study at the New York University Wagner Graduate School of Public Service in a program dubbed ‘The African Women’s Public Service Fellowship’ where they will enjoy a stipend to cover books and other expenses, housing, fees, full tuition, and travel.

Women in leadership in Kenya are challenged most times by men and need all the added skills they can get from institutions, mentors and day-to-day experiences to strengthen their capabilities. The two/third gender rule as contained in the Kenyan constitution is far from being realized in the country.

Qualifications include: a citizen or resident in an African country, a proven commitment to public service in the country or continent, have a strong academic background and a commitment to return to their home countries after the program and take up a leadership position where they can contribute towards confronting challenges in Africa.

The programs one can study: Masters of Public Administration (MPA) in Public & Non-profit Management & Policy; MPS in Health Policy & Management; and Master of Urban Planning, and Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) for Public Service Leaders.

An applicant needs to send a one-minute submission video, an essay and fill out an online application form by December 2. The selected candidates will have interviews conducted by February 2020.
