Consolata Githinji

Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of Consolata Githinji, a 22-year-old woman who died after falling from the sixth floor of a short-stay apartment in Kileleshwa in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026.

According to reports, Githinji had checked into the apartment at around 4:17 am with a man identified as Tony Odhiambo. CCTV footage shows that shortly after they entered, the door opened again, with signs of a possible disturbance inside the room. At about 4:34 am, a security guard is seen briefly entering the room before leaving moments later.

Githinji’s body was later found outside the building. Police arrived at the scene at around 6:19 am and took Odhiambo into custody. He told investigators that Githinji jumped from the window after an argument. However, the CCTV footage and timeline have raised serious questions among detectives and the public about what really happened.

Odhiambo, 33, is also reported to be facing a separate rape charge filed in September 2025 and had an active warrant of arrest after failing to appear in court. Meanwhile, Githinji’s family has dismissed claims of suicide, saying her death is suspicious and demanding full investigations.

Students from Murang’a University, where Githinji studied, have joined friends, family, and Kenyans online in calling for justice. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine whether the incident was suicide or involved foul play.
