Investigations have been launched by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into the fatal shooting of prominent clinical psychologist and mental health researcher Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, who was attacked on the morning of July 29 in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
According to the DCI, preliminary investigations indicate that Dr. Mutiso had requested an online taxi service before she was fatally shot in what is believed to have been a targeted attack.
It is reported that the taxi she was travelling in was intercepted by another vehicle, after which a gunman riding on a motorcycle opened fire, leaving her with fatal gunshot injuries.
She was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
DCI Report: Preliminary Findings
A statement issued by the DCI said the scene was immediately secured and processed by police officers, assisted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives, after the incident was reported.
“Immediately upon receiving the report, police officers, supported by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives, promptly visited, secured and processed the scene. Relevant forensic exhibits were recovered and documented for analysis, while witnesses were interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation,” the DCI said.
The killing has occurred barely a year after a similar targeted attack claimed the life of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were, raising fresh concerns over public safety and the increasing threat of violent attacks in the city.

Investigations are continuing as the motive behind the shooting is being established and those responsible are being sought.
