ONLY one woman has been nominated to participate in the Kiagu by-elections in Meru County on 14th October 2021.
Scolastica Mwendwa is the only female in a list of 11 published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Committee (IEBC) in the Kenya Gazette.
Ms. Mwendwa will vie for the highly contested assembly seat with the Party of Democratic Unity (PDU) ticket.
Others in the race are Milton Mwenda (Chama Cha Kazi), Samson Kinyua (Jubilee Party) Simon Kiambi (UDA), Haron Kaburu (Maendeleo Chap Chap), and Richard Mwangi (Republican Liberty Party).
Joseph Mwangi (Democratic Party of Kenya), Douglas Bundi (Safina), Nabea Joshua (Ford Kenya), Patrick Kananda (Chama Cha Uzalendo), and Nathan Mwiti (NOPEU).
The former elected MCA for Kiagu Ward, Eunice Karegi died after battling cancer and was a member of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
