Just a month after the sudden death of gospel artist Betty Bayo, her mother, Joyce Wairimu Mbugua, is asking for an investigation into what happened. On December 8, she filed a petition with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) to request an inquest into her daughter’s death.
Mbugua says the family is struggling to accept that Betty, who had no known health issues, died unexpectedly. In her letter to the ODPP, she expressed concerns about possible foul play and urged for a thorough investigation. She also mentioned that they were not given the autopsy report, which raised further suspicions.
Additionally, Mbugua noted that the burial of Betty seemed rushed, leading her to believe that important details may have been hidden. The family has requested that the Inspector General act quickly to investigate the circumstances surrounding Betty’s death.
The request is in line with Articles 26 (3), 35, and 157 (4) of the Kenyan Constitution. Betty Bayo passed away on November 10, with reports suggesting she had been battling cancer and receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital before her death.
The family is also asking for Betty’s body to be exhumed for further examination.
