There is hope for childless Kenyan families who would like to hold their own biological children in their arms.
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has sponsored two bills to Parliament to address reproductive health in Kenya.
There are the Assisted Reproduction Technologies Bill and the Reproductive Health Care Bill both on the floor of the legislative house.
Speaking on TV, MP Millie said, “I have a bill titled Assisted Reproduction Technologies Bill that will help women and families who do not have a child.”
Although she does not have a child, the MP said that is not a concern for her but has seen many women cry because of being childless and hopes the bills will bridge the existing gap in legislation and ultimately better reproductive health in Kenya.
“I have seen tears of women who cry because they do not have a child. There is a network of women in Kenya who do not have children and some are divorced and ostracized because of this,” said MP Millie.

The bills will address surrogacy and other emerging technologies that assist childless families to have children.
Former MP Joyce Lay has a child through surrogacy but faced a difficult time dealing with the surrogate mother for four or so years.
