Nominated MP Sabina Chege has proposed a motion to mandate all civil servants, public officers, and state officials to seek treatment exclusively from public hospitals.
She argues that this will boost funding for public health facilities, improving services under Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage Policy (2020-2030).
Currently, civil servants enjoy government-funded medical insurance, but some private hospitals have suspended services under the SHA scheme due to unpaid dues amounting to Ksh30 billion.
Chege insists that channeling funds to public hospitals will ensure sustainability and better healthcare.
